Subjective Visual Vertical ("the app") is designed to respect your privacy. The app does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal information.

Information we collect

None. There is no account, no sign-in, and no analytics or advertising. The app does not contain third-party tracking software.

Camera and photos

If you turn on recording (bucket mode only), the app uses the front camera to record the test and can save a photo or video to your device's Photo Library. This media is created and stored only on your own device. The app never uploads or sends it anywhere.

Motion sensors

The app reads the device's motion sensors on the device to measure orientation during a test. This information is used only while the app is running and is not recorded or transmitted.

Children

The app is intended for use by or under the supervision of adults and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone.

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page.

Quick help

• Bucket mode: attach the phone inside the base of a bucket with reusable putty, screen facing in. The patient holds the open rim to their face so the room is hidden, then turns the bucket until the line looks straight. The result is captured automatically.
• VR mode: place the phone in a VR viewer or Google Cardboard. Turn the line with the on-screen buttons or a Bluetooth remote (arrow keys turn it, space/return locks it), and lock it in when it looks vertical.
• Results: the deviation is shown in degrees for each eye. Repeated trials are averaged and show the standard deviation.
• Recording (bucket mode): if enabled, a photo and video are saved to your Photo Library with the true and perceived vertical lines drawn on them. You can turn recording on or off in Instructions.

The app runs entirely on your device. No internet connection is required.
